My favourite newspaper jorno is Ann Treneman I have to admit her article is the first thing I turn to.

Her Sketch of Lord Sugarpuff of TV-Land maiden speech is just a must read!

It was a wonderful, cringe-making, don’t-you-dare-switch-channels moment. Lord Sugarpuff of TV-Land was making his maiden speech. He had positioned himself directly behind Lord Mandelson who, as a result, was craning his head up and around. This was rubbernecking in every sense.

The speech was all about Lord Sugarpuff, who didn’t get where he is today — which is on the telly — by being modest. It was a sort of I Did It My Way and I Will Survive all wrapped into one long rags-to-riches boast. It was not so much a speech as karaoke.
